Words cannot describe Island Lake that sits 10,260 ft above see level and is located about an hour from Grand Junction.  This is one of the most beautiful lakes and campgrounds I have ever been to in Colorado.  My daughter and I had the pleasure of paddle boarding this gem in late July, but started a little too late in the day and got caught fighting some strong wind.  Be sure to go early in the day mid to late summer for the best weather.  The high altitude makes the weather extremely unpredictable, but if you can fit it into your intinerary while visiting the Western slope, it is a must see beauty.
